MSV432

The MSV432 project (code originated from Rua Marquês de São Vicente, number 432) proposes a reflection between memory and narrative from a listed building that is in the process of transformation to set up in a space that will be the future headquarters. from the Gávea Gallery.

For over a year, I followed the construction work on a neoclassical chalet, built in the 19th century and inaugurated in 1881, located at the aforementioned address, opposite Praça Augusto de Lima, in the Gávea neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro.

I was able to relate to the space in such a way as to consider it a living organism, generating images built in tune with its process of constant transformation, including the circulation provided by those who temporarily inhabit the place through their labour.

Thus, I was producing methods of creation, which consisted not only of photographing, but also of annotating, writing, drawing in a guidebook with annotations, collages with contacts of the films I was producing along with copies of older photos, as well as documents, reports and periodical reports about the house. I had in mind that I needed to build a repertoire in order to create a file that captured everything that interested me, so as to populate a universe that would serve as the basis for creating a poetic about that place, processed and edited from the material. resulting from each immersion with the work in progress.
