What will remain

“In 1927 my grandfather emigrated from a small village in northern Italy to The Hague to settle there as a terrazzo worker.

I make the train journey that my grandfather made at the time. I ponder the history and think about what this trip brought him. I reflect on the countless times that I have made this journey in different ways. The arriving and the inevitable parting. The memories and the connection with the country. How here and there are always intertwined. I am pondering how with the passing of the landscape, the years and the generations, the distance slowly but surely increases.”
