El conjunto vacío es una teoría de la matemática moderna. Es aquel objeto o conjunto en donde no puede encontrarse presencia de elemento alguno, es decir, que no tiene elementos, por lo que se le considera vacío.

Así como se pueden producir conjuntos vacíos en matemáticas, también la ciudad puede interpretarse como un conjunto vacío.

También está vacía la ciudad y lo que la compone, aunque aparentemente esté repleta de elementos. Elementos vacíos que se cruzan con otros, que rompen planos. Y personas, también vacías, que conviven con todo ello en la ciudad.

The empty set (conjunto vacío) is a theory of modern mathematics. It is that object or set that contains no elements, therefore considered as empty.

Just as mathematics modelises empty sets, so can the city be interpreted as an empty set.

Although apparently full of elements, the city is empty and made of empty items, that intersect one with another, that break maps, along with people - empty sets too - cohabitating in this void.

Driven by feng-shui and its principle of seeking harmony and balance, I undertook an ancient Taoist pilgrimage route.

On the way from the 5 holy mountains to the 70th anniversary celebrations of the People´s Republic of China foundation, I collected and treasured small geometric glass lenses that I used to capture my journey.

As an observer, I stood in front of the wall of the complex relationship of the Chinese people with their physical and non-physical heritage. I started digging into the space of images, icons and symbols across a mass of collective repetition in search of new structures, in an unreal and dreamlike world.

The definition of “species”, according to RAE, is “each of the groups into which the genus are divided and are made up of individuals; in addition to the generic characters, they have in common other characters by which they resemble each other and are distinguished from those of the other species”.

They are all inhabitants, are all equals, are all part of that territory and they mean it. Inhabitants that intimately live and look at the landscape. Animate or inanimate beings, living and lifeless, in stillness or movement.

This book is an extract of a larger photographic project based on the observation process of who has walked and travelled through a park in a constant searching process. Someone who observes, as if he was another inhabitant, the architecture, the breathtaking scale sculptures, a created nature with living beings that walk, fly or swim across it, with a growing vegetation in constant movement.

The series aims to be an emotional journey, beyond a simple description, of the hospital stay. This non-place of transition, totally impersonal, becomes a temporary, ephemeral and premonitory threshold (umbral) from which one may pass to other spaces, and even to other worlds. The subjective point of view of the author emphasizes the sensations experienced by a visitor, where loneliness, sadness, impermanence and estrangement are perceived.
