Das Objekt

The series DAS OBJEKT is a critical and subjective reflection on images and icons used in photo handbooks to visualize optical laws to (beginning) photographers. The 40 illustrations in this artist book are extracted from manuals published between 1928 and 2003 in Germany (Weimar Republic, Nazi Germany, GDR, FRG and BRD). Reduced to this function, the motifs used reflect on social developments, ideologies and ideals of the image authors and their imagined readership, with a view to specific linguistic areas throughout the 20th century. Developments in the field of printing technology and graphic design resonate with developments in industrial book printing.
