Der Parasit

The book DER PARASIT/THE PARASITE shows works by artist Sophie Tiller, created during her long-term project of the same name. The artist plants nasturtiums in natural history books. Later, other plants are added - “parasites” by flying seeds - that increasingly displace the nasturtium. Plant colonization prepares a habitat for animal colonization. The book, as a living creation of man, is related to real living beings, the plants. Man tries to explain the world to himself with the help of classification systems. The reference books contain categories that represent man's desire to classify life. The “parasites” in the book come to life, take on a life of their own, get out of control: the unpredictable process takes its course. The apparent chaos has broken the order.
