Masterpieces is a book that explores, through photographs and texts, the transformation of the human gaze on art. It takes place in the Louvre Museum and proposes a new version of the canon of Western art, through its representation on the visitors' screens, which become a symbolic playing field that shows the existing tensions between the works, the devices digital devices and the people who look through them.

I defend the right to beauty. That is why I have published two books that combine words and images and deal with the nature of art and its experience.

According to his birth chart, he is a traditional anarchist, conservative revolutionary and benign iconoclast. He agrees with that.

Antonio Pérez Río (Madrid, 1972) graduated in Law and earned a diploma in Social Education. He is also instructed in literary creation and photography. He has visited dozens of countries, speaks Spanish, English, and French, and has learnt and forgotten as many other languages.

He is the founder of LENS School of Visual Arts.

His work The Metamorphoses (Las Metamorfosis) was the subject of a solo exhibition at the University of Cadiz (2023) and it was exhibited for the first time in the solo exhibition El Museo Infinito, Galería Cámara Oscura (Madrid), in the OFF section of the PHotoEspaña festival (2021). It was finalist for the Ankaria Photo Award (2021). This project was published as a book within the framework of the prestigious Cuadernos de la Kursala collection.

His work A Dream at the Louvre Museum has won the Fundacion ENAIRE second prize of photography 2019 and was exhibited at Real Jardin Botánico (PHotoEspaña 2019). It was also part of the collective exhibitions Conciencia2 (Naves de Gamazo, Santander, 2024 y Ministerio de Fomento, Madrid, 2019).

Masterpieces (Obras Maestras) has been exhibited in the group exhibitions Track and Trace (curated by Lize Rubens, Kortrijk, 2021) and All Art Is Photography (curated by David Campany at the Biennale für Aktuelle Fotografie, Mannheim, 2020). The book of the same name has won the Ciudad de Móstoles Artist Book Award and has been a finalist for the Best Book of the Year Awards Photoespaña 2019, Fotolibro Latinoamericano 2018 and Felifa 2018, in addition to having been selected to participate in the collective exhibitions SCAN Photobooks ( Tarragona) and Here We Live (Hermitage Museum, Saint Petersburg), among others. With his dummy Louvre-Art Guide for Cyborgs was a finalist for the Kassel Fotobookfestival Dummy Award. This project was exhibited for the first time individually at the Albert Hall Museum in Jaipur (India, 2017), within the framework of the Jaipur Photo festival curated by Federica Chiocchietti.

His photographic project The Inevitable was selected by Descrubrimientos PhotoEspaña 2013 (Madrid), PhotoIreland Portfolio’13 (Dublin), Emergentes DST (Braga, Portugal) and was published in OjodePez, the British Journal of Photography and El País. This project formed the focus of an individual exhibition in the CEART Tomás y Valiente (Fuenlabrada, 2015), and was also exhibited in The New Gallery (Madrid, 2015).

The Metamorphoses contains 67 digital collages generated by obsolete software, along with twenty chapters that offer a poetic and ironic look at the nature of art, through exercises in textual appropriation and non-creative writing techniques.

This heterodox essay was published within the framework of the Cuadernos de la Kursala collection of the University of Cádiz, coordinated by Jesús Micó, after the individual exhibition that took place at the aforementioned University in 2023.
