“A cow in the hallway”, by Javier Villabrille, explores the problem of suicide in Asturias, Spain. Three people a week take their lives in a small territory with just over a million inhabitants. The statistics are alarming and the population’s concern is increasing.

Through the pages of this work, the author guides us through the landscapes that are witnesses of this tragic reality: remote villages, dizzying cliffs, imposing viaducts… A dramatic journey from the green of the mountains to the blue of the sea, where many people decide to end their lives in relative calm, with no limits on the horizon.

The work, which is manifested from the verticality of its format, drawing a parallel with the leap into the void of many suicides on bridges and cliffs, reveals the connection between the mining crisis, mental health and the landscape, challenging taboos and calling for reflection. “A cow in the hallway” embodies a visual testimony and a call to conscience in the face of this reality that Asturian society faces.

Rosa Isabel Vázquez builds a sensory and immersive story based on a personal experience in which, after an important dramatic situation, two autoimmune diseases awaken in her and her health begins to deteriorate. Over time, she realizes that her state of mind profoundly affects her physical state, and upon investigation, she discovers that there is a medical basis to it all, leading her to make life decisions that radically change her existence.

Potato Head proposes an original journey through the recesses of our mind, a trip that takes us across a universe of shadows, of images that gradually reveal themselves as fragments of a higher entity. In the end, everything unexpectedly makes sense through the folds of this singular piece, although it will be everyone who decides how to solve this little puzzle in which multiple readings coexist and which there is no single solution.

To materialize the images of this interdisciplinary project, Rosa Isabel immersed herself in various experimental processes that led her to create ephemeral drawings on tubers, in which photography and video became the tools to allow them to live on.

This tour, sometimes romantic, sometimes sordid, actually hides locations, experiences and recommendations for having sex in public places. A unique leisure guide in which we have all seen ourselves reflected at some point in our lives.

The title “Mi Gran Noche” (My Big Night) is taken from the song of the same name by a well-known Spanish singer, Raphael, whose first lines perfectly summarize the essence of the project.

Today is a special day for me because I will go out at night.

I will be able to sing a sweet song in the moonlight.
And caress and kiss my love like I never did.

Transcurso gathers the work carried out by José Quintanilla between the years 2014 and 2020, in which he reflects on the passage of time in a society conditioned by haste and the anxiety of immediacy, where everything rushes at great speed and life unfolds oblivious to pause and contemplation.

The author focuses on nature, in constant struggle with human action, reclaiming abandoned spaces that have ceased to be useful, imbued with a strong emotional charge from what has been experienced, from absence.

The photographs, taken on black and white film, transition between the beautiful and the sinister, metaphorical representations of what we are, our relationship with nature, the impermanence of things, and ourselves.
