Daniela Rossell's meticulously studied images seem entirely imagined, even in a delirious way. What her characters reveal gives her photography an air of barely contained madness. The Mexican artist focuses her ethnographic gaze not on the daily lives of the humble and their immemorial traditions and customs, but on her own social class: the oligarchs whose economic and political power keeps the humble in their place. Or not precisely on the oligarchs themselves, but on those who live under them, their wives and daughters... and occasionally their sons, although it is clear that Rossell's main interest lies in the lives of women.
