“Captaincies and Tyrannies” speaks of a country, a land in a trance, in which logic succumbed, hatred spread, political dialogue was corrupted, and the saviors of the homeland got lost amidst anachronistic messianisms and shady deals.” – Eder Chiodetto, curator

Natural Heritage of Humanity, first hereditary captaincy and target of the current government’s policies, Fernando de Noronha was a prison for political prisoners of the 1964 military dictatorship. Produced after an exhibition held in the archipelago in July 2019, the photobook brings together images from that time, texts, collages, recording of videos and photographs – in addition to the threats and intimidation received during the exhibition.
