The Hero Mother – How to build a house
Peter Puklus
Witty BooksImages Vevey
Puklus deconstructs and questions the dynamics of pre-established male and female roles: motherhood as a supposedly heroic activity and the father's supposed duty to build and protect the home. Her quest unpacks the traditional symbols associated with maternal and paternal figures in a playful yet critical way. Outside the confines of the photographic studio, she develops an original visual vocabulary around paternal life and issues related to the construction of the nuclear family. Presented and premiered internationally at Images Vevey, Switzerland, the installation reconstructs everyday life and unfolds in the intimacy of the home: in each room, the viewer discovers the complexity of ourselves.
