La época, reportage of a vetoed story is a book that recreates, as if it were a newspaper of the time, the episodes of the war in eastern Tolima. It is a chapter in the history of the Colombian conflict that has not been told or made known due to the weight that censorship had at the time. By tearing the seal of the prohibition with which anyone who wants to communicate on the matter is condemned, the book suggests a kind of struggle to publicize this difficult episode in Colombian history.
The design of the book is designed to simulate the pages of the newspaper of the time, but unlike the original, the reader finds himself with a more extensive series of investigations that lead to reconstruct historical events as news.
In this publication, the photographer Stephen Ferry and the historian Tomás Mantilla propose not only to circumvent censorship, but also to reread the recent history of the Colombian conflict, telling how this important episode of the Violence of the 50s, which occurred between 1954 and 1957 in some municipalities in eastern Tolima, in the foothills of the Sumapaz páramo, and which had its center in the village of La Colonia, in the municipality of Villarrica, marked the emergence of the Cold War in Colombia.
