San Pedro de Atacama, like many communities in Northern Chile, celebrates its Carnival. Making space for festivities and giving thanks for nature's bounty is paramount here. Celebrating the earth and every new life is urgent, and this custom is deeply ingrained in the worldview of the Atacameño people, represented in this report by the Ayllus Coyo and Yaye. The origin of the carnival is lost in memory, like all things with a magical origin. It existed before the arrival of the Spanish. Various elements blend harmoniously and in contrast. They share a space in the collective imagination and express themselves in such a way that together they form a picture that is the vital record of the Atacameño people.
