"I feel like I don't know my father. It's not because he isn't here, but because he doesn't like to share much about himself. Or perhaps he does, but only to a certain extent. Just as some people delve into their homeland, their ancestors, or deceased relatives, I've felt the need to explore his negatives (with his permission) to broaden the image I have of him.

With these photographs taken by my father, new to me and part of a memory that isn't mine, I've played at inventing a narrative that isn't chronological and doesn't tell a specific story. I've constructed an image from the feelings they intuitively evoked in me, of what my father meant to me, or of how I imagine he might have been back then, before I existed and he was awakening to adulthood."
