COSTRAS
Andrés Larraín Araneda
Letargo Editorial
Costras is a visceral photobook that explores, through the author's own experience, the social and emotional consequences of the water crisis suffered in the Coquimbo region, specifically in the Limarí province.
For ten years, Larraín documented with his camera how the inhabitants of the territory—who are also his neighbors, family, and close friends—transformed both their daily routines and their perceptions of the landscape.
There, the images intertwine with an idealized vision to contrast with reality; the door opens, and the frame speaks to us of a nostalgic, yet now unreal, past.
The wounds overflow, the archive becomes the greatest treasure, and the ravages of time are present, again and again. Because the land changes, the people resist, and the photographs remind us.
