"Das Jahr der Eidechse" (The Year of the Lizard)

The lizard is a cold-blooded animal whose body temperature relies on the temperature of the environment. By basking in the sun or retreating into shady spots it regulates its blood heat. When sufficiently warmed up, it is nimble and agile; at low temperatures it is less active. If threatened by a predator, the lizard will shed its still moving tail in order to distract the attacker while the "rest" of the lizard can flee. With the tail, it loses speed, agility and a larger part of its fat stores. But lizards can re-grow their tails, although usually only in a shortened form.
The book is about light, shadow and changing perceptions. It tells about the in-between and depicts what might lay beyond the obvious.

I took all the images with analogue cameras and I handcrafted the whole book.

"Das Jahr der Eidechse" was one of the 20 finalists for the Photobook Award of Encontros da Imagen 2020.

"Das Jahr der Eidechse" (El año de la lagartija)

La lagartija es un animal de sangre fría cuya temperatura corporal depende de la temperatura del entorno. Se regula el calor de su sangre tomando el sol o refugiándose en lugares sombríos,. Cuando está suficientemente caliente, es ágil y veloz; a bajas temperaturas es menos activo. Si se ve amenazada por un depredador, la lagartija se desprende de su cola, la cual sigue moviéndose para distraer al atacante. Mientras tanto, el "resto" de la lagartija puede huir. Con la cola pierde velocidad, agilidad y una gran parte de sus reservas de grasa. Pero a los lagartos les puede volver a crecer la cola, aunque normalmente sólo de forma acortada.
El libro trata de la luz, la sombra y las percepciones cambiantes. Habla de lo intermedio y evoca lo que podría haber más allá de lo obvio.

He tomado todas las imágenes de este libro con distintas cámaras analógicas y he confeccionado el libro a mano.
