Through a visual diary of a journey through various Latin American countries with his partner—a person with albinism—El menso metió la cabeza en un hormiguero reflects on what it means to live with difference in a world that seeks to correct it. Through landscapes, portraits, and personal materials, the project transcends the intimate to delve into issues related to genetics, DNA modification, and the body as a political and emotional territory.
The photobook combines a documentary approach with a deeply personal language—characteristic of Sofía Ayarzagoitia’s practice—where memory, fiction, and identity intertwine to question the ways in which we construct and perceive the body. Winner of the Fotocanal 2025 competition, the book offers a reflection on vulnerability, difference, and the possibilities of representation through lived experience.
