An investigation into the experience of being a woman under the gaze of others, understood as a form of control and everyday violence against women’s bodies.

There is a gaze that follows, makes one uncomfortable, and imposes constraints. A constant presence that many women learn to recognize from childhood and that determines how they move through, occupy, and inhabit spaces.

This book is the result of a six-year research project conducted by Érika Vitela together with her college students. Drawing on testimonies and images taken from the personal photo albums of more than 200 women, the publication weaves a collective narrative about the gaze directed at the female body and the everyday forms of violence that sustain it.
