Mother’s
Ishiuchi Miyako

"Mother's" is noted Japanese photographer Miyako Ishiuchi's poignant reflection on her complex relationship with her mother. In it, images of intimate personal objects such as half-used lipsticks and lingerie left behind following her passing in 2000 are interspersed with Ishiuchi's riveting extreme close ups of patches of her mother's severely burned skin. "What I have now are only the things my mother left behind for me. I bring them out into the light one by one, to seal their image onto photograph, as a farewell to her".
