Every March, for five days and five nights, the village of Pachica abandons its everyday tranquility to immerse itself in a frenetic unfolding of knowledge and customs that takes over each of its sunny corners. Its patron saint, San José, is celebrated. And no sacrifice is too much. In this photo essay, the festival is narrated on several levels. On the one hand, faithful to the naturalness of the celebration, the reality lived by the protagonists and their rituals is reported, seeking to document and sacredly respect the local culture, the raw material of the work. On the other hand, anchored in this record, a powerful Andean imaginary is constructed that explodes before the spectator. The collision between these types of images, which characterizes this photobook, seeks to seduce the reader, awakening an active reading experience, always open to new interpretations.
