Paellas y coches
Ricardo Cases
Selfpublished
This work reflects on new ways of relating to our most universally known dish, paella. For decades, ‘takeaway paella’ made in restaurants has coexisted with the social ritual of homemade paella. Haste, lack of time and the search for greater convenience have established new ways of relating to this emblematic dish, but it has continued to be represented in the classic way. In contrast, the work shows scenes of paellas travelling in cars on their way to all kinds of homes. This idea originated in the restaurant L'Alter in Picassent (Horta Sud), which cooks more than 80 paellas a day to take away during the warmer months. Ricardo Cases presents these motorised still lifes, exploring new visual imagery around the representation of paella.
