Stones, Ants, and Televisions

Zygmunt Rytka (1947–2018) was an in-between artist associated with the Polish neo-avant-garde of the 1970s and the independent art community of the 1980s. In his conceptual work, he combined a philosophical and artistic study of nature and perception with ironic reflections on contemporary media and politics. The artist viewed the camera as an instrument that creates convention and begins to influence reality. This book is a comprehensive collection of the work of Polish photographer Zygmunt Rytka, including his early conceptual cycles, works on consumer culture, politically charged analytical studies on media language, and works focused on the relationship between culture and nature.
