La resistencia del silencio

The Resistance of Silence is a book of confrontation of images because it puts in tension two of the extremes of the photographic representation of political rhetoric. In the foreground and with a black color in high contrasts, are photographs taken during various protests in Lima between the years 2012 and 2019, the last one being recorded on the day of the dissolution of the Congress of the Republic of Peru. Below, they appear under an intense red color, a set of official images, extracted from the broadcasting system of the Congress itself, through the keyword "minute of silence" that refers to the moment of the shot, where the congressmen symbolically keep a minute of silence, in commemoration of the death or memory of some individual or group.

The repetition of this confrontation tells us about a permanent power game. Both the images of the protest and those of the congressional floor occupy a shared space. Their friction points to evidence the symbolic weaknesses of actors and performances in the exercise of politics and, at the same time, the cyclical and symbiotic nature of this ecosystem.
