Punto de Fuga

Magdalena is a book that seems to show a paradisiacal landscape, calm, peaceful, where the life of the fish does not seem to be affected by any kind of danger. The Magdalena River rises in the Andes Mountains at an altitude of 3,650 meters, crosses the country for 1,600 kilometers and flows into the Caribbean Sea. Halfway along its course, in the area known as Magdalena Medio, natural eddies appear and bring timber and other materials to the surface. Since the beginning of the armed conflict in the 1960s, the river has been expelling the bodies of those killed.

Guerrillas, paramilitaries and local mafias used to throw the bodies of victims into the Magdalena to make any evidence disappear. Political tensions and drug trafficking precipitated a war that has left more than 200,000 lifeless bodies. With this kind of stories Felipe Romero built a fictional narrative that refers to that peaceful restlessness with which people live in the deepest part of the Magdalena. This work is the winner of the fourth edition of Fotocanal Photography Book Contest 2019, organized by the Community of Madrid and Ediciones Anómalas.
