TRÁNSITO is a photo monograph by Mexican photographer Roberto Tondopó that explores grief, identity, and memory through images that combine documentary photography and symbolic elements. The project emerged following the death of his father, whose name was Tránsito, and revolves around the Fiesta Grande in Chiapa de Corzo (Chiapas, Mexico), where the tradition of the Chuntás takes place—men who dress as women as part of a popular and religious celebration.

Throughout the book, Tondopó uses this tradition as a metaphor for transformation and change. His participation as a chuntá serves as a tribute to his father and, at the same time, a reflection on how grief transforms people. The photographs depict bodies, rituals, gestures, and landscapes that invite us to consider identity as something flexible and constantly evolving, moving away from rigid categories of gender and culture.

Rather than telling a linear story, TRÁNSITO offers a visual journey through family and collective memory. The work blends reality and fiction to create a poetic experience where tradition, spirituality, and photography come together to explore loss, belonging, and the possibility of rebirth through art.
