This book is composed of sixteen monumental photograms reproduced to scale, arranged one after the other, forming a large image without end. These photograms are the result of a long eight-year process of developing a particular technique and grammar that Roberto Huarcaya sought from the day he was invited to enter the Peruvian Amazon jungle, in the Bahuaja Sonene area, with the support of the Wildlife Conservation Society.
All these negative images move between trace and fiction, between presence and absence, between the register and the shadow that hides some forms and reveals others, and the design is interesting because it unites different series in a single and constant image with the use of Japanese stitching. When reading this book it seems that the cut of the page does not cut or separate each frame but prolongs it. Joan Fontcuberta's essay reminds us that photography without a camera takes us back to the beginnings of photography in which alchemists, physicists, mathematicians and astronomers strove to find ways to fix light and becomes a way of questioning the conventional practice of photography.
