Punto de Fuga

Utaki is a book that mixes different image registers to talk about the search for identity. In Okinawa, Utaki means a sacred place, a place of prayer and generally refers to spaces in nature: a forest, a cave or a mountain, to which few people have access.in this book, Ricardo Tokugawa looks back to his family, to his origins to find precisely that pleasant aspect of Japanese culture in the most intimate places.

The book creates a very careful sequence to take us into those interior spaces, making us participants of family encounters, sometimes posed, sometimes portrayed more naturally, but always with that strangeness and humor that unleashes the things that seem so close to us but at the same time so strange because they come from the origins.Utaki is a very interesting book that shows how the customs and habits do not stop moving and renewing themselves as Daniel Salum points out.
